BEND, OR - June 11, 2008 - Roland White, Broker, Licensed in the
State of Oregon with Cushman Tebbs Sotheby’s International Realty
reports on the Historic 96 RANCH with its long history as one of
the oldest working cattle, recreational hunting ranches in Oregon
established in the early 1870’s by Thomas Jefferson Logan.
The 96 RANCH located in southern Crook County in the High Desert of
Central Oregon was established in the early 1870’s by Thomas Jefferson
Logan as referenced by the Crook County Historical Society. The area
is also known as Logan Butte which was named by Tom Logan when he
settled there with his family and son who was only six years old at
the time.
He was later succeeded by his brother, Samuel Logan who continued the
ranch operation and later sold the property to Dominic Verges, who
later sold the ranch to Bill Brown near Buck Creek. The 96 RANCH
for some time was known as the second largest ranch in Oregon next to
the Q Ranch which adjoins the property. The 96 Ranch retains its
original name as this was the Brand established by Thomas Jefferson
Logan.
The 96 Ranch now controls 20,525+ total acres of which 3,525+ acres
are deeded with 7,000 acres of surrounding BLM land that total 10,525+
contiguous acres. There is an additional 10,000 acres of leased land
from the USFS in the Mowry Unit. The ranch owns a portion of Logan
Butte and contains some landlocked BLM parcels that have geological
fossil beds that have been investigated by renown Geologists from
around the world.
Currently, the 96 Ranch is a working cattle ranch that manages 450+ cow
calf pairs in a year around cattle operation. There are 500+ acres of
hay crops, 300+ acres irrigated by pivot and wheel lines, and 200+
acres that are dry land farmed.
The 96 ranch offers additional recreational possibilities with Owners
Preference Tags for trophy Elk, Deer, Mountain Lion, Cougar and Bob
Cat. Additional activities include horse back riding on 1000’s of BLM
acres as is camping, fossil hunting, bird watching, ATV and
nature/hiking activities.
The property features a 3,000+ s/f owners home built in 2006, three
ranch dwellings, numerous outbuilding corrals, loading chutes, staging
areas and includes wheel and pivot lines. The 10,525+ contiguous acres
are perimeter and cross fenced for easy herd management.
